WWFC Women – Match reports for last weekend

Match reports for the weekend Sunday 25th September.

Please note, there is no under 18s match report as the game was cancelled.

Wycombe Wanderers Women Firsts 0 – Eastleigh 1

A strong Wycombe Wanderers Women team went into the game feeling confident, having previously picked up 3 points in their first game of the season.

The visitors started the game well, using a high press but the Chairgirls did well to deal with the pressure and slowly began to take control of the match and dominated possession for long periods however, they failed to capitalise on this and the score line remained 0-0 at half time.

This continued into the second half and despite all their efforts, the Chairgirls were still struggling to make the breakthrough in the final third. Manager Carl Simon used all five substitutes to try and effect the game only to be undone on the 80th minute by a rebounded free kick that was turned in at the front post, following a good initial save from goalkeeper Sophie Cheadle.

Trying to fight back, the Chairgirls pushed forward and thought they had equalised, scoring a perfectly good goal on the 90th minute only to have it disallowed by the opposition linesman.

The home side ended the game on the receiving end of a very frustrating 1-0 loss.

Manager Carl Simon said:

“Overall, I’m proud of my players and the effort they put into this match, we were just unable to convert the chances we had.”

“Unfortunately the performance is over shadowed by refereeing issues, that caused problems for both teams. It’s for this very reason all clubs voted for official lino’s to be used at leagues matches, the inconsistency of having unofficial lino’s will prove unfair over the course of the season.”

“This is not an attack on the Eastleigh Lino, as they had some poor decisions go against them too, but more a lament at how good footballing moments are being ruined by not having proper officials at this level.”

The Chairgirls are next in action at Adams Park, in their Vitality Womens FA Cup match against Sport London E Benfica on Sunday 2nd October; you can purchase tickets from https://tickets.wwfc.com/cms?page=WWWFCTickets

Easington Sports FC 0 – Wycombe Wanderers Reserves 2

The Chairgirls turned up to their first away match in the league looking to continue their good start to the season. Their first game playing in the away colours was all the more reason to continue their good form and make sure they came away with 3 points.

In the first half, Wycombe created opportunities to score, with most being outside the area. The first chance to score was from a free kick, taken by Charlotte Hill. The referee had ruled it as a goal before the lineswoman’s flag was spotted and after much discussion with the lineswoman, changed his mind to rule the goal out for an offside.

Easington Sports continued to cause Wycombe trouble in midfield and try to get down the wings to get a shot off on goal. In the second half, changes were made and the energy changed for The Chairgirls. Naomi Tilley came off the bench to score a solo goal – through the legs of the goalkeeper – and a volley, to win the game for Wycombe Wanderers.
